#plasticfreejuly Day 1

Sooo.... I am technically writing this on day 2, but who cares right? If you haven't heard by now, yesterday initiated the start of #plasticfreejuly. Don't know what that is? It's a global movement to reduce plastic pollution. You can take a pledge to ditch single use plastic by visiting their website here: www.plasticfreejuly.org

I decided that was going to be my inspiration to write something each day. So that's what I am going to do. Post one tip on how to reduce your daily plastic each day.

So today's tip is: Ditch the single use yogurt cups.

I must admit before today we were constantly buying those single serve yogurt tubes for our kiddo. As much as I hated them, it was the only way I could get my picky toddler to eat anything dairy-like. I'm still guilty of buying the huge plastic tub of yogurt. However, I feel slightly better that those plastic tubes are not going in the landfill. The plastic tub can be reused to store leftover (Mexican tupperware LOL) or repurpose for other task before recycling.

Here's some alternatives we've used.

For adults, I like using mason jars. I forgot to leave enough room for toppings! =( Most of my jars have been left over from pasta nights, pickle jars, and thrift store finds.

For kids, the reusable pouch is the way to go! I've tried a variety of styles, but this particular one has survived all the kitchen purges and donation bins. The Squeasy Gear 6oz snacker is our go to for smushy foods and drinks. It's made of bacteria resistant silicone, dishwasher safe, and leakproof. We've had this particular one for about two years and it still look brand new!

You can order at www.squeasygear.com

Stay tune for tomorrow!
